Angolan president available to cooperate with Portugal
Luanda, ANGOLA, May 11 - Angolan head of State João Lourenço Friday reiterated in his Twitter the desire to move forward with cooperation between Angola and Portugal.
,
"I spoke today morning with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on the ruling of Lisbon Court of Appeals," writes João Lourenço, who congratulate the Portuguese counterpart on the successful conclusion of Manuel Vicente case.
On Thursday, the Lisbon Court of Appeal decided to send the case of the former vice president, Manuel Domingos Vicente, to Angola.
The Court of Appeal’s decision removed a major thorn in bilateral ties between Angola and Portugal.
The Angolan president João Lourenço conditioned on 8 January the normalisation of the relations between the two countries to the transfer of Manuel Vicente case to Luanda.
Vicente is accused of bribing a magistrate in Portugal when he was chief executive of the Angolan oil company Sonangol.
Former Portuguese prosecutor, Orlando Figueira, who was arrested in early 2016, is on trial on charges of receiving a bribe to suspend an inquiry into Vicente’s dealings in Portugal before he became vice president.
On Thursday the Portuguese president and prime minister, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and António Costa, respectively, praised the Court's decision, which opened a new era of relations between the two countries.
In its note, the Civil Affairs Office of President of Republic of Angola confirmed the telephone conversation in which the two presidents took the opportunity to congratulate each other on the positive outcome of Manuel Vicente case.
