South and Central Asia: Congratulations to State Department Employees Hoa Thi Tran and the Asia Assistance Team as 2018 Service to America Medal Finalist

The Department of State is pleased that some of our employees have been named as finalists to receive the 2018 Service to America Medal, a national awards program to honor the achievements of federal employees. Hoa Thi Tran, Ph.D., and the Asia Assistance team of the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration are one of the four national finalists for the National Security and International Affairs Medal. The team, which also includes Jennifer Cole and Elizabeth Biermann de Lancie, were nominated for their work delivering emergency humanitarian relief to nearly 700,000 Rohingya refugees who fled violent persecution in Burma to find safe haven in neighboring Bangladesh.

The Partnership for Public Service will name the seven recipients of 2018 Service to America Medals, including the Federal Employee of the Year, at a Washington, DC, gala on October 2, 2018. Visit https://servicetoamericamedals.org/ for more information.

The Service to America Medal award was created in 2002 by the Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization committed to recruiting and retaining excellence in the federal civil service.
