Luanda, ANGOLA, May 7 - The agreement between the Catholic Church and the Angolan government is being assessed by both sides aiming at bolstering and recognising the bilateral cooperation, said on Sunday in Luanda the Apostolic nuncio to Angola, Dom Petar Rajic. ,

The agreement between the Republic of Angola and the Holy See, which is due to be signed very soon, includes recognizing, for instance the legal personality of the Catholic Church in the country, as well as the various buildings, including schools and clinics, in the various archdioceses or dioceses, explained the priest  in an interview to Angop.

 

Religious freedom and freedom of expression, as well as the realization of movements and actions, as long as they do not go against what is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, will also deserve attention in this regard.

 

On 7 March, the Angolan Head of State, Joao Lourenco, set up an inter-ministerial commission to deal with negotiations on the Framework Agreement, to be concluded with the Holy See, within six months. These negotiations had been pending since 2015.

 

Speaking to ANGOP, the apostolic nuncio said that the work that will culminate in the signing of the agreement is advanced also considering the relations between Angola and the Holy See excellent, due, among other things, to good correspondence and collaboration between the two States.
