Over 200,000 families benefit from agricultural projects
Luanda, ANGOLA, April 7 - At least 230,000 Angolan families will receive agricultural and livestock production and recovery projects in the coming years, under the International Fund for Agricultural Development (FIDA), worth USD50 million.

The amount spent on these projects, launched on Thursday, could reach USD 90 million, said Friday in Luanda the FIDA chairperson Gilbert Houngbo.
Houngbo confirmed this to the press at the end of an audience granted by the Vice President of Republic, Bornito de Sousa.
The FIDA official put at USD 50 million the amount spent on the projects, but he admitted that the value could reach as much as USD 80 million or USD 90 million.
He also said that the productivity increase project, estimated at USD 38 million, serves to support families in the provinces of Huíla, Huambo and Cuanza-Sul.
Whereas, the agricultural and livestock recovery is meant to assist the drought affected provinces, such as Cunene, Namibe and Benguela.
Gilbert Houngbo, who is visiting Angola for the first time since his election to hold the current position at United Nations, spoke of the need to work with the Angolan authorities on the new economic diversification strategy.
Angola should not restrict only to the export of products like oil, but needs to diversify its economy, as well as ensure promotion of women and the vulnerable people, he said.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Marcos Yunga pointed out the need to restore the agricultural and livestock capacity of populations affected by climate change as the main goal of recovery agriculture project.
He said that more projects should be identified to ensure food security and the creation of conditions for the development of rural communities.
The minister predicted encouraging production of corn and beans in coming days, in view of the timely arrival of inputs and fertilizers, at affordable prices.
Angola’s partner since 1991, FIDA funding projects has totaled USD 150 million.
