Educational Collaboration Strengthens STEM Curriculum for College Students

Last week, U.S. Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management (LM) contractor employee Jody Waugh served as a guest instructor at Diné College in Tsaile, Arizona. He presented lectures on plants, climate, ecology, and environmental sampling and monitoring. He also led a seminar and an environmental science field trip to LM’s Monticello, Utah, site.

The work was done under the Applied Sciences and Technology program’s Educational Collaboration Technical Task Plan (TTP). The TTP was created to strengthen and build LM’s long-standing commitment to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. Its goals are to strengthen existing partnerships with tribal colleges and Native American graduate students and to explore opportunities for new partnerships with colleges and universities. One of the students from Diné College will be an intern in LM’s Grand Junction, Colorado, office this summer.
