Author Conveys Compelling 'Promises' To The Readers

Promises is the story of a gentle hearted boy who becomes a man faced with insurmountable challenges. Born on a cotton farm in Missouri, Mark ends up fighting in a war in Vietnam. The loneliness and separation from family play a heavy toll on Mark. In the time he is away the grandmother who loved him dearly dies. His son is born and his wife returns to work. Mark finds himself relying on the scriptures he learned as a child in order to exist.

After the war, Mark finds there are no welcome home flags flying, no one greeting the soldiers as they return. The job he had before the war has been filled and there are no openings for employment. For a time disillusionment claims him when he has to see a doctor and is told he has no promise of a future; he is dying of cancer caused by Agent Orange, as he watched the enemy from a far and reported to his superiors, unprotected from the airplanes flying on the chemicals. Now Mark must adjust to the terrible news. Will his faith carry him through leaving his young wife and two little boys? How does his family handle the news, these are but two of the questions a family must meet.

She began writing first person articles of interest for a newspaper and branched into hosting a weekly column that featured area writers and poets. She studied with the late author and illustrator David Melton and has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers. While writing is an important outlet, she is also an artist, a life group leader, and has an interest in an area agricultural endeavor.
