Cecilia Malmström addresses Union for Mediterranean Ministerial
Euro-Mediterranean partnership | Brussels, 19 March
After 8 years, the Union for the Mediterranean Ministerial were back around the table. The Commissioner praised the strong foundations of this meeting built by our trade officials over the past years, talked about the EU’s Aid for Trade agenda and its contributions to the region, and expressed hope that there would be a further meeting next year.
On the importance of the partners present to the EU, the Commissioner said, “We live in a time of great change indeed - but some things never change. The importance of the Mediterranean as a region is one of those things. It has always been a central superhighway of transport, trade and culture. It is the meeting point of 3 continents and many more cultures.”
