Mass Media Regulatory Authority chairperson elected
Luanda, ANGOLA, March 15 - The journalist Adelino de Almeida was unanimously elected chairperson of the governing body of the Angolan Social Communication Regulatory Authority (ERCA), which will have, among other things, the task of promoting and guaranteeing pluralism, safeguarding objectivity, the rigor and the exemption of information.,
On the other hand, the members of the board of directors, composed of 11 members, elected journalist Paulo Mateta as vice-president of ERCA.
On that occasion, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, who chaired the event, considered the beginning of a new era of peace and harmony in the Angolan media, auguring a good exercise in the mandate entrusted to them.
He promised the support of the National Assembly so that ERCA could carry out the tasks assigned to it.
The official noted that the media sector requires the existence of an independent entity committed to the mission of monitoring good journalism practices, guaranteeing ethical values, pluralism of the diversity of opinion channels and free access to information.
The Speaker of the Angolan Parliament considers that the members appointed to carry out this activity have the knowledge and experience necessary to ensure, in a general way, the observance of norms and discipline in the various segments of the media activity.
