Goal 1: Good Jobs (source America's Goals for 2030)

The Rev. Jay Lawlor begins his series on America's Goals by looking at Goal 1 and the connection between access to good jobs and Christian economic justice.

The pattern of Christian life presented in the gospels has particular relevance today as millions struggle as working poor, a shrinking middle class, and the increasing concentration of wealth. ”

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, US, March 12, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Rev. Jay Lawlor continues his series of blog articles in support of America's Goals as a faithful witness to social justice. He begins his article on Goal 1 of America's Goals (Good Jobs) by quoting America's Goals for 2030 Goal 1: "All hard-working Americans should be able to earn a livable wage and have a decent standard of living, including paid time for family leave, vacations, and sick leave. Employees should have rights at work, and the chance to be represented on key decisions that affect their lives and livelihoods (from America’s Goals – Good Jobs)."

The Rev. Lawlor then offers some background on "Jesus and the Gospel of Economic Justice." Here the Rev. Lawlor looks at a sampling of the New Testament which supports the biblical theme of economic justice toward Goal 1 of America's Goals. He writes:

"The pattern of Christian life presented in the gospels has particular relevance today as millions struggle as working poor, a shrinking middle class, and the increasing concentration of income and wealth in the top one percent. In her Magnificat (The Song of Mary), Mary rejoices in God who scatters the proud, brings down the mighty, and lifts up the poor and lowly (Luke 1:51-53). Later Jesus proclaims that the poor will have good news brought to them (Matthew 11:5)."
