Luanda, ANGOLA, March 11 - The first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, was posthumously promoted to the military rank of Army General, in a decision of the National Security Council.,

According to a press release arrived in Angop on Saturday, the National Security Council met last Friday in Luanda chaired by the head of State and Commander in Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, João Lourenço.

In the same session and also posthumously, Lieutenant-General João José Afonso da Silva "Mayunga" was promoted to the rank of general, while Plácido Ramiro da Costa, in the same condition, rose to the rank of Brigadier, according to the document from Civil House of the President of the Republic.

The National Security Council also decided to retire the Army general Manuel Hélder Vieira Dias Júnior "Kopelipa", who have reached the time-in-service limit.

The National Security Council is the president’s consultation body dealing with the national security policy and strategy.

The National Council is integrated by vice president of Republic, National Assembly Speakers, Constitutional and Supreme Courts chiefs justice and the Attorney General.

Ministers of State and ministers appointed by President of Republic, as well as other entities decided by president also integrate the body.
