President receives certificates of merit from FAO

Luanda, ANGOLA, February 23 - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço was awarded with three certificates of merit on Friday from the representative UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Angola, Mamadou Diallo.,

The certificates are the acknowledgment of the commitment of the Angolan authorities in the fight against poverty, food insecurity and nutrition.

The prizes, according to Mamadou Diallo, were  awarded to the FAO representative in Angola, who in turn decided to hand them over to the Angolan Government .

Speaking to journalists at the end of a meeting with President João Lourenço, Mamadou Diallo said that the awarding of the distinctions to the Angolan statesman is recognition of the work done by the country's authorities in the fight against poverty, food insecurity and nutrition.

Angola is one of the ten African countries that have made the most progress in improving nutritional food security and reducing food insecurity, he said.

The meeting also aimed to review Angola / FAO cooperation and outline steps to intensify it.

FAO has 40 projects in 12 provinces. These are programs in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, poverty alleviation, food security and technical assistance.

Angola and Switzerland

In another audience, President João Lourenço discussed aspects related to bilateral cooperation with the Swiss ambassador in Angola, Benedict Gubler, also at the end of the mission.

Speaking to Journalists , the diplomat said that Switzerland continues to support the efforts and commitment of the Angolan government to pacify the Great Lakes region.

In the chapter on economic development in Angola, he said that the Swiss government is working to attract investments from companies from that country to the Angolan market.

Angola and Switzerland maintain cooperation relations in health, education, trade and construction.
