UN official highlights Angola's role in pursuit of peace
Luanda, ANGOLA, February 9 - The commitment of Angola and its President João Lourenço to seek peace for the Central African region, in particular Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), was stressed Friday in Luanda.

The recognition was expressed by the head of the United Nations Office for the Central Africa region, François Lounceny Fall, at Luanda's "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport after 24-hour visit to Angola.
François Fall was received Thursday in audience by the Angolan Head of State, with whom he discussed matters related to the situation of peace and political stability in central and southern Africa region.
The diplomat, who praised the meeting with the Statesman, said that they analysed issues that concern the region, in particular DRC and CAR.
The UN Secretary-General's special envoy also welcomed the initiative of the presidents of Angola and Congo.
The Statesmen are expected to meet soon in Kinshasa for a tripartite summit to address the peace in the DRC.
The diplomat also said he was confident that the efforts by Presidents João Lourenço and Denis Sassou Nguessou will help find a peaceful solution to the situation, adding that the UN and DRC and CAR were particularly concerned.
"It is a great challenge to ensure peace in central and southern Africa, but with joint work, commitment by all and with the experience of Angola, the peace can be achieved in DR Congo," he emphasised.
The UN representative left Luanda bound for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to perform a similar mission, before returning to Libreville (Gabon), the headquarters of the Offices.
The UN official was seen off at Luanda airport by resident representative of the UN system in Angola, Pierri Baladelli, among other national and foreign diplomats.
