Over 71.000 former military staff on retirement

Luanda, ANGOLA, January 25 - More than 71, 000 former Army staff have been listed for retirement by the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) during the period 1998 to 2017, said Wednesday in Luanda the National Defense minister, Salviano Sequeira.,

The official, who was answering to MPs’ concerns in the National Assembly, on the debate regarding the State Budget for 2018 explained that FAA’s Social Security Scheme is currently controlling 48,889 pensioners, in which 35,812 on retirement, 10,718 survivors and 95 with disabilities.

According to the minister, there are still 21,588 potential beneficiaries expecting to be registered in the Social Security Scheme, as soon as the money is made available.

Besides the amount available for salaries payment, those retired will also benefit from food and medicines supply, said the official.

Meanwhile, the Angolan Armed Forces Chief of General Staff, Geraldo Sachipengo Nunda, stated that FAA can not live on a budget of USD 1,7 billion, which represents only a quarter of their needs.
