Police Commander reiterates fight against illegal immigration

Soyo, ANGOLA, January 21 - The fight against illegal immigration, fuel smuggling and other cross-border crimes calls for greater commitment from the National Police in the northern Zaire Province, mainly in the present year, said Saturday in Soyo, the provincial commander of the National Police, Manuel Gouveia.,

Addressing national police forces during his 72-hour aid and control visit to the coastal zone of the province, the commander recalled that Zaire is considered one of the regions of the country with high rates of crimes related to illegal immigration, so efforts must be redoubled to contain this phenomenon.

"We have to review our way of acting in order to meet the expectations of the citizens, regarding illegal immigration and other related crimes," he said.

The commander and respective delegation will visit Police stations, commands and other units in Soyo Municipality.

Zaire Province shares a 330-kilometre border with the region of Congo Central, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Every year, hundreds of foreign citizens, especially those from the DRC,  have been questioned and detained by the police and immigration authorities of the province, for illegal entry and stay in the national territory.
