Luanda, ANGOLA, December 15 - Angola’s largest opposition party, UNITA, last Thursday appealed for the reduction of the excessive party influence on the State apparatus, with a view to enabling a success of the ongoing reform of the public institutions. ,

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Third Meeting of UNITA’s Political Commission, the organisation’s leader, Isaías Samakuvua, said that the Angolan President must focus exclusively on managing the country.

 

In his opinion, it is necessary to change certain political attitudes, behaviours and the governance culture.

 

To Mr Samakuva, the message on the reduction of a political party influence on the State apparatus must be clear and unequivocal.  

 

He defended the necessity for the affirmation of the Republic, broadening and strengthening of democracy in the country.

 

Thus, he advocated a deep analysis of the institutionalisation of local governments as a way of responding to people’s current pressing expectations.   

 

He agreed with the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, who this week appealed for the repatriation of moneys illegally kept outside the country.  

 

In the meeting, which is set to close on Saturday, the members of UNITA’s Political Commission are analysing, among other issues, the intention by Isaías Samakuvua of leaving the party’s leadership, fifteen years after getting at the helm of the political organisation founded by the late rebel leader, Jonas Savimbi.  

 

In last August 23 elections UNITA came second with about 26% of the votes.
