Kakila Prison lacks physicians

Luanda, ANGOLA, December 9 - The lack of physicians in the Kakila Prison, located in Viana Municipality, in the north-western Luanda Province, is one of the main concerns manifested by a delegation of MPs that last Friday visited the institution, which hosts about 1,059 inmates. ,

The MPs also noted other relevant situations to tackle, such as the difficult access to the location of the prison, lack of ambulances and the high number of young inmates.

According to the leader of the delegation, MP Raul Danda – head of the Parliament’s 10th Commission – there are inmates who have already served their prison sentences but remain incarcerated.

In view of this, he defended the urgent taking of institutional measures to solve the main problems faced by the prison board.

The Parliament’s 10th Commission deals with human rights, petitions, complaints and suggestions from citizens.

The delegation that visited the Kakila Prison also included senior staffs from the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.
