Parliament Speaker returns home after regional meeting
Luanda, ANGOLA, December 4 - The Speaker of the National Assembly (Angolan Parliament), Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, returned to the country last Sunday afternoon, after chairing in Windhoek, Namibia, the 42nd Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum. ,
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos was welcomed back in Luanda, at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, by the Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Higino Carneiro, MPs and senior parliamentary staff.
The 42nd Session of the Parliamentary Forum of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) discussed topics like reproductive and sexual health, empowering women, and human trafficking .
The Angolan delegation also included the ruling MPLA parliamentarian Luisa Damião and opposition UNITA’s MP Lukamba Gato.
The event, which took place from 25 November to 02 December, was attended by twelve of the fourteen SADC member states. Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) were absent.
The SADC Parliamentary Forum was instituted in 1997.
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos was elected Chairman of SADC-PF in the 40th Plenary Session of this regional organ, held on November 2016, in Zimbabwe.
