Angolan speaker still hopeful in SADC parliament

Windhoek, ANGOLA, December 1 - The speaker of the Angolan National Assembly (AN), Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, today in Windhoek reiterated the hope that one day the SADC peoples will be able to count on a regional parliament.,

"As one hopes, achieves, we have faith that one day the SADC peoples will be able to count on a regional parliament," he said.

Fernando Dias dos Santos was speaking in Windhoek, Namibia, at the official opening of the 42nd session of the Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum.

The Angolan parliamentary official pointed out that Windhoek, besides hosting the Organization's headquarters, was the place where the treaty establishing the Southern African Development Community (SADC) was adopted in 1992.

"That is why," he emphasized, "it will not be an exaggeration to say that the history of SADC and the SADC Parliamentary Forum is associated with this historic and beautiful city."

Fernando Dias dos Santos deplored that, since two decades have passed since the idea of transforming the SADC Parliamentary Forum into a regional parliament, the dream continues to be fulfilled.
