President pays homage to freedom heroes in Africa

Pretoria, ANGOLA, November 25 - Under the rain that fell on Pretoria, Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, today expressed deep respect for all South African heroes in the cause of freedom, fighting against the oppressive regime of Apartheid.,

Accompanied by his wife, Ana Dias Lourenço, the Angolan head of State toured the main rooms and galleries of the historical monument, where he deposited a wreath, preceded by the ritual of bare feet and washing hands at a fountain.

After fulfilling the traditional protocol in Freedom Park, João Lourenço wrote in the guest book a message of appreciation, in which he highlighted the role of all those who lost their lives inside and outside South Africa in favor of freedom and peace.

Among the countries that supported the struggle, according to the dedication of the President of the Republic, is Angola, as well as Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania and other African nations.

He recommended that the example of those leaders, whose names are stamped on the walls of the monument, be followed by the new generations of South Africans.

Freedom Park includes a memorial listing names of citizens killed in South African wars, world wars I and II, and during the apartheid era, as well as the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale.

In March 2009, 24 deceased "heroes of the liberation struggle" were proposed to be included in the memorial. Some of the "national leaders" chosen are Steve Biko, Oliver Tambo, Helen Joseph, Albert Lutuli and Bram Fischer.
