Luanda, ANGOLA, November 13 - The first President of Angola Agostinho Neto has been honoured during a ceremony held in Havana, Cuba, as part of the celebrations of the 42nd anniversary of National Independence. ,

During the ceremony, held last Friday, the Angolan ambassador to Cuba, José César Augusto "Kiluanji", unveiled a new bust of the founder of the Angolan Nation, who died 38 years ago, due to illness.

Kiluanji highlighted Neto's deeds and all that his figure represents as a nationalist, politician, poet and doctor.

"Agostinho Neto was, along with the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, one of the architects of the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between Angola and Cuba," he said.

In his turn, the chairperson of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, gave a brief explanation of the trajectory of Agostinho Neto.

He stressed the challenges and adversities Agostiho Neto managed to overcome with the commitment to the cause he defended until the last days of his life.

Agostinho Neto proclaimed the country's independence on 11 November, 1975.
