Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores to Close for Thanksgiving Day

National Retailer to Shut Doors on National holiday, Re-Open for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Nov. 10, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOS) has announced each of its more than 1,000 stores across the United States will be closed on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23) 2017.

The closures will take place to give owners and associates of the independent, local businesses a chance to spend the day with their families.

“We understand the importance of spending time and creating memories with loved ones during the holidays so we want to ensure that our store owners and employees are given the opportunity to do so,” said Will Powell, Chief Executive Officer and President of Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. “Not only does hitting the pause button during major holidays give them a chance to spend time with their families, but it encourages our customers to take that well-needed break as well.”

Black Friday pricing will be available on each of the company’s websites on Thanksgiving Day. “We are encouraging our customers who want to shop on Thanksgiving to use searshometown.com, searsoutlet.com or one of our other sites and to pick up their product in the store when it’s convenient for them,” said David Buckley, Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of eCommerce. “If consumers want to spend the day with their families while helping other families, shoppers can receive exclusive Black Friday pricing before Thanksgiving Day with a donation to Make-A-Wish.” This year, with any $5 donation to Make-A-Wish, shoppers will receive exclusive Black Friday pricing at all Sears Outlet stores from November 16 - 22 and at all Sears Hometown, Sears Appliance & Hardware Stores, and Sears Home Appliance Showrooms from November 19-22. The stores will re-open for Black Friday (Nov. 24) and Small Business Saturday (Nov. 25).

“Being an independent, local retailer means focusing on families and the community,” said Bill Beaston, owner of the Sears Hometown in Middletown, Delaware. “Having the holiday off will allow us to spend time with our families and recharge for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, a day designated to supporting small businesses and celebrating their benefit on local economies and communities.”

The closing of stores for Thanksgiving Day does not apply to stores operated by Sears Holdings Corporation.  Sears Hometown and Outlet stores are largely independently owned and operate under a license to use the Sears brand name, but are not part of Sears Holdings Corporation.
