Law Firm of Robins Cloud Files Lawsuit Claiming PG&E is Responsible for Couple's Burn Injuries

The lawsuit, on behalf of a Santa Rosa couple, is believed to be the first claim filed by Wine Country Fire burn victims.

SAN FRANCISCO, UNITED STATES, November 2, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The law firm of Robins Cloud, LLP has filed a lawsuit against PG&E claiming the utility is responsible for severe burn injuries suffered by a Santa Rosa couple. This complaint was filed late yesterday in San Francisco Superior Court (Case No. CGC-17-562246) and is believed to be the first lawsuit filed on behalf of burn victims.

The plaintiffs, Ulla and Lars Tandrup, suffered severe burns as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They lost their home on Quietwater Ridge in Santa Rosa and all of their belongings in the fire. Because the facade of their house was on fire, they were not able to access the family car and had to run through the fire to reach safety. As she was fleeing, Ulla Tandrup's nightgown caught fire. She suffered burns to over 25% of her body, including severe burns to her feet and legs, as well as to her face, neck, and hands. While running, Lars Tandrup's pajama bottoms caught on fire, so he had to remove them as he attempted to run through the fire carrying the family dog. Lars Tandrup was not wearing shoes, and as a result, suffered severe burns to the bottoms of his feet.

Ulla Tandrup remains hospitalized in the intensive burn unit at St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco as a result of her severe burns.

The lawsuit alleges PG&E knew that drought-like conditions existed, resulting in a high fire danger. As such, the potential damage from a fire would likely result in the loss of life, injuries, significant destruction to real and personal property and harm to members of the general public, according to the lawsuit. The complaint further alleges that PG&E failed to properly maintain and repair power lines while negligently failing to properly trim, prune and maintain vegetation near their electrical equipment. The lawsuit alleges the defendant's electrical equipment came into contact with vegetation as a result of failing to conduct frequent inspections of their equipment, sparking the Wine Country Fires. The Tandrups seek their actual damages as well as punitive damages against the utility.

Lars Tandrup said, "PG&E needs to be held accountable for the harm they have caused. We hope through the filing of this lawsuit we can help to make sure this never happens to anyone else ever again."
