Angola: President off to Brazzaville to attend Summit

Luanda, ANGOLA, October 18 - Angolan head of State João Lourenço left Luanda Wednesday bound for Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, to attend the Seventh Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Great Lakes Region. ,

 

At Luanda's "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport, João Lourenço was seen off by Vice President Bornito de Sousa, Parliament Speaker Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, and Constitutional Court chief justice Rui Ferreira.

 

During the event, slated for Thursday, Angola will transfer the two-year presidency to the Republic of Congo.

 

Angola and Republic of Congo maintains relations of friendship and cooperation in various fields.

 

This is the first official visit by the Angolan Head of State abroad since he came into office on 26 September, following the general elections of 23 August 2017.

Presidents of Burundi, the Central African Republic (CAR),  Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia are also expected to attend the Summit.
