As part of its commitment to a more transparent trade policy, the Commission today published a report summarising the progress made during the latest trade negotiating round for the modernisation of the EU-Mexico Global Agreement. In addition, the Commission published three text proposals the EU submitted to Mexico ahead of the round.

The round report includes more details on all areas of the negotiations, including trade in goods, technical barriers to trade, services, investment and government procurement. The text proposals cover the exceptions provisions, the annex on wine and spirits, and the annex on motor vehicles.

Overall there were substantive discussions and good progress in all areas and negotiation groups. The talks focused on the text proposals for the trade part of the agreement, as well as on the market access offers on goods, services and public procurement that were exchanged in July. 

The fifth round of negotiations with Mexico took place in Brussels at the end of September. Although originally scheduled for 25 to 29 September, several meetings occurred either side of those dates. 

The sixth round will take place in Mexico City from 25 November to 1 December. The objective remains to conclude a highly ambitious agreement by the end of the year.
