The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia.
In the context of 10 October 2017 general elections in Liberia, the Secretary-General commended President Johnson Sirleaf’s efforts to encourage political actors to respect democratic principles, the rule of law and ensure broad and inclusive participation. He expressed hope that free, fair and transparent elections could set the stage for Liberia to continue on the path of democracy and peace consolidation. The Secretary-General reaffirmed the UN’s support to the elections and consolidation of peace in the country.
