Sept. 30 Event to Address "Helping Cancer Caregivers in the Workplace"

PHOENIX, Aug. 28, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AARP Arizona today announced its sponsorship of the Arizona Myeloma Network’s (“AzMN”) Cancer Caregivers Education Program^© (“CCEP”) scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Scottsdale. The CCEP is a series of events designed and offered to the public free of charge by AzMN. Seminars provide professionals, family and friends practical knowledge, skills and strategies necessary for effectively caring for their loved ones and themselves. The AzMN, a 2016 Top-Rated Nonprofit by Great Nonprofits, delivers free cancer education to cancer patients, cancer caregivers and their families. The CCEP topic for the Sept. 30 event is “Helping Cancer Caregivers in the Workplace.”

According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 33,000 people in Arizona were diagnosed with some form of cancer in 2016.  A single patient may have multiple caregivers throughout the course of his or her cancer journey. If each patient had just five different caregivers, at least 165,000 people in Arizona alone could benefit from the practical support provided by the CCEP educational programs.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 60% of caregivers have challenges with work attendance, which can lead the caregiver to suffer from stress-related illnesses and even depression. The Sept. 30 CCEP program will offer valuable information to help caregivers and employers understand what can be done to address some of these challenges.

It can be overwhelming, but there are resources available for caregivers and their families.
