Barking Football holds match in honour of Joshua Bwalya
Barking Football Club on Sunday held a football match in honour of Joshua Bwalya who was early this month stabbed to death by a masked gang of boys in Barking, United Kingdom.
And Joshua’s burial date is yet to be set as his body has not yet been released to the family.
Joshua played football for Barking Football Club and the club organised the ‘Joshua Bwalya’ memorial match played in a fully packed stadium between Baking Football Club and Clapton Football Club, a club Joshua previously played before joining Baking FC.
The organisers said that the proceeds of the match was going to Joshua’s family as a way of supporting the family during the bereavement.
The club said Joshua, popularly known as JB was a keen footballer who shared his passion with all that knew him adding that he was a valued member of Barking Football Club and he will be greatly missed.
Barking Football Club won the match after scoring six goals while Clapton Football club scored three goals.
And Staff from the Zambia High Commission London led by Charge D Affaires Mr. Mukela Mutukwa were also present at the football match.
On 2nd August 2017, Joshua and his two friends were “ambushed” by a group of youths on bicycles who were wearing masks as they were going home from a party. The three were chased into a 24-hour-supermarket in Ripple Road at about 01:00 hours, then again into the street, where Joshua was stabbed, passers-by fought to save him but he died at the scene. His two friends, who banged on doors of nearby homes to ask for help, were also stabbed but they survived.
Joshua was a victim of a “crazy postcode war” and had been targeted by a gang from a rival Barking estate and he was stabbed six times in the back and ribs and his lungs were punctured.
