Mass Transit Expert Keith Millhouse Launches Millhouse Strategies
Southern California firm provides strategic and legal expertise to planners, consultants
Millhouse built a national reputation through his work as Metrolink board chairman in the wake of the 2008 rail disaster involving a commuter train. Millhouse helped Metrolink become an industry safety leader implementing new collision absorption technology, inward-facing cameras and positive train control.
Now Millhouse, who is also an attorney, helps private contractors and government agencies develop and win approval for smart and safe mass transit and other projects. Millhouse has worked with local agencies in Ventura, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Riverside, Orange, San Diego and San Bernardino counties, as well as nationally and internationally. He recently made a presentation the Metro Board Safety Committee in Washington, D.C.
“We created Millhouse Strategies to provide municipalities, transit agencies and the contractors that work with them the guidance they need to bring their plans to fruition,” said Millhouse. “So many times, I’ve seen brilliant concepts and proposals ultimately fail to get off the ground because the proponent didn’t have someone in their corner that understood the process inner-workings and could have provided a roadmap to success.”
Many of the news reports about Millhouse and his highly acclaimed contributions towards better rail safety are detailed on his new website in news clippings, in a video, and in a podcast in which he weighs in on the California high-speed rail project, cuts in federal funding for transportation projects and the foreseeable impacts of new technology.
Millhouse, who is based in Westlake Village, Calif., has led numerous policy-making bodies including the Southern California Association of Governments’ transportation committee and Ventura County Transportation Commission. He is also a former member of the Moorpark City Council. With decades of service as a public servant and private consultant, Millhouse is a go-to media expert on mass transit and transportation issues and disasters.
