East Lake Academy will host its May Crowning Mass and Grandparents Day celebration on May 5, 2017.

As such, the Chicago-area private Catholic school regularly hosts events designed to bring families together in celebration. The annual May Crowning Mass and Grandparents Day Event will be held on Friday, May 5, and students’ grandparents and family members are encouraged to attend.

East Lake Academy believes that grandparents provide their students with valuable connections to the past in terms of faith, culture, beliefs and traditions. Grandparents have a tremendous impact on the lives of children, and the annual Grandparents Day celebration allows children the opportunity to share their faith and experiences at school with their grandparents and families.

The school hosts its Grandparents Day celebration in conjunction with May Crowning. This includes an all school Mass, followed by the annual crowning of Mary by the 2nd and 8th graders. For centuries the entire Catholic Church has set aside the month of May to honor Mary, the mother of God.

On this day, grandparents are encouraged to visit classrooms, engage with teachers, and attend Mass and May Crowning with their grandchildren. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the children and their families, and a tradition that East Lake Academy holds dear.
