Isanti Family Chiropractic Clinic Announces Availability of DOT Physicals

Isanti, Minn., April 16, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Isanti Family Chiropractic Clinic is now offering DOT (Department of Transportation) physicals for the convenience of area truck drivers. Dr. Paul Bergley follows the standards set forth by the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association) and the DOT exam form. This exam tests vision, hearing, blood pressure, blood sugar, and drug use. Successful completion of the exam provides commercial drivers with the Medical Examiner's Certificate that they need to have on them when they're on the road.

Commercial truck drivers need to pass a simple physical to be certified as safe to be on the road. While drug testing gets most of the attention in the press, there are actually several other health aspects that are tested. These include tests of vision and hearing, blood pressure testing, and blood sugar testing. All of which is included during the DOT physical exam available at Isanti Family Chiropractic Clinic.

In order to pass the test, truck drivers must have no trace of drugs such as amphetamines, narcotics, and other addictive drugs in their urine. All Schedule 1 drugs are banned.

The vision test requires correctable vision of at least 20/40 for each eye. Glasses or contacts are okay. For hearing, the driver must be able to detect a forced whisper from a distance of five feet.

Blood pressure must be at or below 140/90. It is permissible to take prescription medication to reach this number. Commercial truck drivers may have diabetes, but blood sugar must be controllable without the use of insulin shots. Other types of medication, or control via diet, are permissible. For blood sugar, the maximum level is 200.

"The DOT exam ensures that Minnesota drivers are in good enough condition to safely operate their trucks. It involves a quick and simple set of tests, so there is no reason for drivers to avoid taking it," said Dr. Bergley.

Since the DOT exam is required for commercial truck drivers, such individuals should be sure to schedule theirs before their old certificates expire. This is simply to make sure that there is no gap between the expiration of the old one and the issuance of the new one.

Anyone with any health concerns, such as lowered visual acuity or the possibility of high blood pressure, should schedule their exams even further in advance. This will allow them time to get everything in order and be re-tested before they need their new certificates.
