The benefits of CETA for the Poland-Canada trade relationship
Canada | Brussels, 7 April 2017
In a Citizens’ Dialogue at the University of Vistula today, EU Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström outlined the role of trade in supporting economic growth and creating jobs in Poland. Taking the recent agreement between the EU and Canada as an example, she set out the advantages for Polish companies in sectors such as cosmetics, fruit and vegetables, and luxury yachts - strengthening economic links, without reducing EU standards. All in all, nearly 2000 Polish companies are involved in exporting to Canada, with exports in 2015 worth 5 billion Polish zloty.
With 1.5 million Polish jobs depending on exports outside the EU, Commissioner Malmström also set out the EU's ambitious programme of trade negotiations with partners such as Mexico, Japan, South America and South-East Asia.
Separately, the Commissioner held a working lunch with Mr Jerzy Kwieciński and Mr Tadeusz Kościński, Secretary and Undersecretary of State in the Polish Ministry of Economic Development.
