On the heels of the "big game," students from across Colorado will compete on Feb. 11 at the Colorado High School Science Bowl for a chance to win a trip to the big game in STEM education - the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C.

In total, 48 teams from 31 Colorado schools will compete for the statewide title, including returning champions Ridgeview Classical Charter School from Fort Collins. Ridgeview Classical emerged victorious in 2015 and 2016.

The winning team will represent Colorado in the Energy Department's National Science Bowl, April 27-May 1, in Washington, D.C. The Colorado High School Science Bowl is hosted by the department's National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The National Science Bowl began in 1991 as a way to encourage high school students to explore math and science in a fun academic competition.

Four students comprise each team, with a fifth serving as alternate, and face-off in a fast-paced question-and-answer format on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, energy, and math. Schools are allowed to register one or two teams.
