OE Seeking Subject Matter Experts to Serve as Technical Reviewers

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (OE) is looking for subject matter experts to serve as technical reviewers.  Selected individuals may be asked to evaluate applications and proposals received in response to government-issued Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) and Laboratory Calls (“Lab Calls”), or to serve on Peer Review panels to assess ongoing OE programmatic activities. 

To be eligible to participate as a member of OE’s reviewer pool, you would need to provide contact information, indicate subject matter expertise in technology areas within the mission of OE, and submit a resume demonstrating your qualifications.

Additional details

  • Reviewers must sign a “confidentiality and conflict of interest” form for each assigned FOA, Lab Call, or Peer Review.
  • If assigned to a FOA or Lab Call, reviewers typically have 2 – 3 weeks to perform evaluations.The proposal evaluation process consists of reading the application/proposal and supporting information and preparing strengths and weaknesses within pre-determined evaluation criteria. Applications/proposals are typically 25 pages with additional supporting information.Travel is not required, as evaluation materials are provided in electronic format.
  • If assigned to a Peer Review, reviewers typically serve for 2-3 days on a panel with 4-5 other individuals. The process consists of listening to project presentations by the Principal Investigators, asking questions of the presenters related to technical accomplishments and project status, and preparing strengths and weaknesses within pre-determined evaluation criteria.Travel is often required, as the Peer Reviews are held throughout the country.
  • OE does not pay reviewers for performing this service.However, travel-related expenses (in the case of Peer Review) may be reimbursable, subject to DOE approval.
