PotashCorp’s $100,000 gift helps Friendship Inn ‘Fill the Plate’ year-round

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – For the fourth straight year, PotashCorp is matching donations made during the Friendship Inn’s Fill the Plate campaign, up to a total of $100,000.

“It’s important for everyone to have access to healthy, nutritious food, so it’s good to know that when people need a meal, the Friendship Inn can provide it,” said PotashCorp President and CEO Jochen Tilk.

The Inn is a community center that is open every day of the year, offering breakfast and lunch to vulnerable people in Saskatoon. It also has a family support worker on staff and provides advocacy and support to those who visit.

Though Fill the Plate happens during the holiday season, funds raised help the Inn meet the needs of its guests year-round. “It is the generosity of the entire community that makes Fill the Plate such a tremendous success,” said Tilk.

Almost half of the Inn’s guests eat there daily, says Executive Director Sandra Stack. “Their need has no season. Fill the Plate donations help the Inn serve meals to children, women, and men – many with heartbreaking life stories.”

“By inspiring people to contribute during the Fill the Plate Campaign, PotashCorp helps make it possible for the Friendship Inn to serve more than 1,000 meals a day,” said Andrew Coutts, Chair of the Inn’s board of directors.

During the campaign, PotashCorp is presenting the Inn’s Festive Holiday Dinner, a formal fund-raising event that will be held at the Inn on Thursday, December 15. On Christmas Day, it will sponsor the Inn’s traditional holiday meal, which is provided to the hundreds of guests who visit that day.

As the world’s largest crop nutrient company, PotashCorp plays an integral role in global food production. The company produces the three essential nutrients required to help farmers grow healthier, more abundant crops. With global population rising and diets improving in developing countries, crop nutrients such as potash, phosphates and nitrogen offer a responsible and practical solution to help produce the food we need, from the land we have.
