World Maker Faire Wraps 7th Annual Flagship Event in New York to Fantastic Reviews

Ninety-five thousand people from the New York area and beyond convened over the weekend to share in the magic of the Maker Movement, confirming that World Maker Faire is the place on the East Coast to experience making first hand and take in the abundance of inspiration and motivation that is prevalent at the Faire.

    • Total waste diversion rate of 74%;
    • 7.8 tons total waste was diverted to recycling;
    • 2.12 tons of waste collected for compost;
    • 1.6 tons of materials were donated for reuse;
    • 684 lbs. of cooking oil was collected to be turned into biofuel;
    • a new record of 100 volunteers supporting this program over the weekend!

In addition, the second Make: Education Forum was held on Friday, September 30, at the New York Hall of Science. A collaboration between Maker Media, MakerEd, and the New York Hall of Science, the Make: Education Forum brought together educators, makerspace organizers, librarians, local and federal state department representatives, and youth organizations who have developed models and platforms to serve bringing the Maker Movement into all levels of education. A full house of formal and informal education professionals who are tasked with creating project-based learning programs for kids that support general STEM areas enjoyed the opportunity to learn more, network with, and be inspired by mentors who are paving the way for bringing these changes into classrooms.
