TUCSON, AZ--(Marketwired - October 10, 2016) - What defines the modern American West? A new exhibition of painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture at the Tucson Museum of Art examines the evolving modern landscape through images of transportation modes that transformed the West. Fifty works explore how trains, planes, and automobiles have impacted daily life and changed the western scene. Images of classic cars, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, biplanes, and locomotive engines are featured in the exhibition, as well as roadways, and diners, showing the influences of transportation on works of art and the history of the American West.

"When the final spike of the transcontinental railroad was laid in 1869, the American West was forever changed. In less than 50 years, automobiles and airplanes further ushered in the modern world. This was truly a remarkable feat, and for well over a century, many artists have focused upon these subjects in their works of art," said Christine Brindza, Glasser Curator of Art of the American West. "I am thrilled to share this exhibition, which blends art and history, not only with visitors who enjoy art, but scholars and enthusiasts, too."

The exhibition features works by artists including Ansel Adams, Maynard Dixon, Woody Gwyn, Beth Loftin, Howard Post, Ray Strang, and Dennis Ziemienski.
