Plymouth Rock Assurance Marks 19 Years of Supporting the JDRF One Walk

The New Jersey Insurance Group Rallies Employees to Support Local Causes

/EINPresswire.com/ -- RED BANK, NJ--(Marketwired - October 06, 2016) - Every five minutes a small device worn by Liam Jones sends data to his smartphone, and to his parents' phones. The 12-year-old has Type 1 diabetes (T1D) and uses the data to closely monitor his blood sugar levels.

Liam has been using the device, known as a continuous glucose monitor, for the past month to help him more quickly respond to problems when managing his T1D. The technology in this type of device is relatively new and was made possible, in part, by JDRF, a global nonprofit that funds T1D research.

On October 9, Plymouth Rock Assurance will bring a team of more than 200 people to the JDRF One Walk in Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey, to raise awareness of T1D and money for continued research. The company's team will include Liam and his father, Brad Jones, Director of Plymouth Rock's Service Center.

This is the 19th year since 1998 that Plymouth Rock employees have participated in a JDRF One Walk.

"Our company has a saying about New Jersey that we live, work and drive here," said Gerry Wilson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Plymouth Rock Management Company of New Jersey. "Making things better is part of our company's culture. The people who work at Plymouth Rock have a genuine desire to improve their local communities. We're proud to support this cause every year."

Among Plymouth Rock's other community contributions:

  • Dozens of New Jersey nonprofit groups benefit each year from employee donations matched by the Plymouth Rock Foundation.
  • Plymouth Rock's Teachers' Insurance Plan of NJ has given funding support to New Jersey schools and school districts since 2007.
  • Six charities, including JDRF, benefit from Plymouth Rock's Pledge of Assurance® customer service guarantee.

The ultimate goal for JDRF is to cure T1D. People with the disease cannot produce insulin -- a hormone that helps turn food into energy. The disease strikes children, like Liam, and adults suddenly.
