BCSC Announces New Director of Enforcement


/EINPresswire.com/ -- VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/23/16 -- The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) today announced the appointment of Douglas Muir as Director of Enforcement effective September 7, 2016.

"Doug's deep understanding of securities and administrative law, and broad regulatory experience make him uniquely qualified to bring strategic leadership to our critical Enforcement efforts," said Brenda Leong, Chair and CEO of the BCSC. After spending seven years as Litigation Counsel in the Litigation group of BCSC's Enforcement division, Mr. Muir took on the role of Associate General Counsel in the Office of the Chair where he provided expert legal advice to the executive on a variety of matters including administrative law procedures and freedom of information. Prior to joining the BCSC in 2004, Mr. Muir worked for six years as litigation counsel with Farris, and prior to that was an associate at Bolton and Muldoon. He holds a law degree from the University of British Columbia, and a B.A. from Western University.
