"A remarkable true story of courage, compassion and rescue."

SAN MATEO,, CALIF. --, UNITED STATES, August 17, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- SAN MATEO, Calif. — We live in a time of divisiveness and radical extremism that seems to be growing throughout the world. Audiences and readers are craving stories that promote care, respect, service and unity. Speaker and author Marty Brounstein brings such a story through his book, “Two Among the Righteous Few: A Story of Courage in the Holocaust,” now starting its second edition which will be up for grabs nationwide this week.

It’s a remarkable true story of courage, compassion and rescue, focusing on a Christian couple named Frans and Mien Wijnakker who, despite great risk and danger, saved the lives of over two dozen Jews from certain death in Nazi-occupied Netherlands during World War II and the Holocaust. Despite having four small children of their own, the Wijnakkers got involved to help people in dire need when fear, indifference and sympathies with the Nazis kept most others from doing so, which is why the book is not titled Two Among the Righteous Many!

Now in his sixth year of presenting what he calls his “unexpected journey,” Brounstein has spoken to nearly 500 audiences around the country, in churches, synagogues and Muslim organizations, community centers, libraries, service organizations, private homes, bookstores, schools and universities, Holocaust and history museums, professional conferences, workplaces and more. Brounstein inspires his audiences with the courage and compassion of Frans and Mien Wijnakker and the revealing of his meaningful personal connection to the story*. In March 2014, he was invited by the Dutch Consulate General in San Francisco to speak there and has been the keynote speaker for Holocaust Remembrance Day events in Chicago, Seattle and New York.

The continuous positive response to Brounstein’s story has spurred a second edition. Having been back to the Netherlands three times since the original story was published in 2011, Brounstein brings his readers up-to-date on the main characters, including the Wijnakker’s first refugee, a 14-year-old girl by the false name of Freetje DeGroot, previously known by her much-too-Jewish name, Shula Laub, who just so happened to be friends with a girl named Anne Frank. With 30 more pages and additional photographs, Two Among the Righteous Few: A Story of Courage in the Holocaust gives readers greater insight into the hardships and dangers of life in the Netherlands during World War II and what made the feats of courage and compassion by Frans and Mien Wijnakker so remarkable and unusual.

Whether through the book or Brounstein’s compelling presentations, it’s clear that this is more than just another Holocaust story. It’s a remarkable tale of courage and compassion that promotes interfaith respect along with ethics and positive values — lessons we can apply today more than ever.

* Spoiler Alert regarding Brounstein’s meaningful personal connection. Among the many challenges and dangers that Frans and Mien Wijnakker faced during their two years of rescue work was the taking into their home a young married Jewish couple in the early stages of pregnancy. This was a near impossible dilemma to deal with under the brutal Nazi occupation. To make a long, exciting story brief, the Wijnakkers performed a miracle and got that baby born and kept safe, with Mien even putting pillows under her clothes to make the outside world think the baby was hers. That baby is Marty’s wife, Leah Baars.

Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, the book is available through bookstores nationwide, from the publisher at www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore, or by visiting barnesandnoble.com or amazon.com.
