/EINPresswire.com/ -- The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) national and provincial nursing leaders will be in Whitehorse, YT, during the Council of the Federation Meeting July 20-22, 2016. The CFNU will host a breakfast meeting for Canada's premiers, entitled Filling the Prescription -- The Federal Role within a National Pharmacare Program, on Thursday July 21, 2016. The breakfast will feature expert speakers make the compelling case for Canada's implementing a universal pharmacare program as the next step in the evolution of our health care system.

Speakers include:

• Hon. Darrell Pasloski, Premier of Yukon;
• Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario;
• Dr. Steve Morgan, Professor in the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia, leader of Canada's Pharmaceutical Policy Research Collaboration and founder of Pharmacare 2020;
• Dr. Ruth Lopert, public health physician and pharmacoepidemiologist/ pharmacoeconomist, who will provide an international perspective; and
• Linda Silas, President of the CFNU.

The CFNU President Linda Silas and representatives of Canada's provincial nurses unions will be present and available for comment in Whitehorse during the Council of the Federation meetings.

The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) is Canada's largest nurses' organization representing nearly 200,000 nurses and student nurses. The CFNU has been advocating for national discussions on key health priorities, such as a national prescription drug plan, a comprehensive approach to long-term and continuing care, greater attention to health human resources, and federal government engagement on the future of public health care.
