Bioenergy Technologies Office Announces Notice of Intent for the Co-Optimization of Fuels and Engines Initiative

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) intends to issue, on behalf of the Bioenergy Technology Office (BETO) and Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO), a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) entitled “Co-Optimization of Fuels and Engines.” The FOA will be restricted to U.S. Institutions of Higher Education and non-profit research institutions that operate as a division under the U.S. Institutions of Higher Education.

This FOA will support the Co-Optimization of Fuels and Engines (Co-Optima) initiative, a collaborative initiative being pursued by BETO and VTO to accelerate the introduction of affordable, scalable, and sustainable high-performance fuels for use in high-efficiency, low-emission engines. This first-of-its-kind effort brings together multiple DOE offices, national laboratories, and industry stakeholders to simultaneously conduct tandem fuel and engine research, development, and deployment assessment to maximize energy savings and on-road vehicle performance, while dramatically reducing transportation-related petroleum consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Read additional information about the initiative on the Co-Optima web page.       This notice of intent (NOI) is issued so that interested parties are aware of EERE’s intention to issue this FOA in the near term. EERE will not respond to questions concerning this NOI; however, once the FOA has been released, EERE will provide an avenue for potential applicants to submit questions.

The FOA is expected to be posted on the EERE Exchange in August. To see the full NOI, visit the EERE Exchange website. To receive official notifications and information regarding this FOA, applicants should register in EERE Exchange. When the FOA is released, applications will only be accepted via EERE Exchange
