Charles Grantham Joins Seton Hall University From NYU

/EINPresswire.com/ -- SOUTH ORANGE, NJ--(Marketwired - June 30, 2016) - The Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Grantham as director of the Center for Sport Management following the retirement of Founding Director Ann Mayo, effective August 1, 2016.

Professor Grantham is deeply involved in professional sports, in both an academic and professional capacity. Currently, he is an adjunct professor in the Stillman School's sport management program and a visiting clinical assistant professor in New York University's School of Professional Studies, Tisch Institute for Sports Management, Media and Business. At NYU, he regularly teaches courses in "Antitrust and Collective Bargaining in Professional Sports," "Professional Sports Franchise Operations," "Contracts and Negotiations" and "Leagues and Governing Organizations."

Grantham served as a consultant to the plaintiffs and their counsel, Michael Hausfeld, in the Ed O'Bannon vs. NCAA lawsuit, and has represented National Basketball Association (NBA) players including Tobias Harris, Charles Oakley and Amar'e Stoudemire.

Grantham also played a pivotal role in the advancement of the NBA. As a union executive with the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) from 1976 to 1995, he transformed the NBPA from a mere bargaining unit to a multifaceted organization designed to enhance the League's image and protect the NBA's greatest asset -- its players. As a principal negotiator, he helped to establish the League's four historic Collective Bargaining Agreements between 1980 and 1995 and was an architect of the industry's first revenue-sharing/salary cap business model -- a multi-billion-dollar labor contract.

Grantham has been a keynote speaker and lecturer for numerous organizations and universities and has appeared frequently in the media including serving as an expert analyst for Bloomberg Television News during both the NFL and the NBA lockouts. He has authored articles featured in The New York Times, SportsBusiness Journal, and SI.com, in which he proposed a method by which college athletes can share in revenue generated by the use of their likenesses.

Grantham has an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and has completed doctoral course work in administration and organizational management at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Education.
