Three Enforcement Orders Served on Food Businesses in October

Thursday, 5 November 2015

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today reported that two Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order were served on food businesses during the month of October for breaches of food safety legislation, pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998 and the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010. The Enforcement Orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive.

One Closure Order was served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on:

  • Curry Leaf (restaurant), 79 Leinster Street, Athy, Kildare

One Closure Order was served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on:

  • The Crescent View Restaurant, Crescent Mall, Crescent Quay, Wexford

One Prohibition Order was served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on:

  • Ina's Kitchen Desserts Limited (bakery/confectionery), Unit 9, Beechlawn Industrial Complex, Walkinstown, Dublin 12

Commenting on these latest Enforcement Orders, Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI stated that food businesses need to be vigilant at all times in relation to food safety to ensure full compliance with food legislation.

Dr Byrne said: “Food businesses must recognise that the legal onus is on them to make sure that the food they sell or serve is safe to eat. This requires ongoing compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. Food businesses should take full advantage of the information and support provided by the inspectorate and the FSAI. If any food business owner is unsure of what is required of them by law, they can contact the FSAI advice line at info@fsai.ie or visit its website or facebook page.”

Details of the food businesses served with Enforcement Orders are published on the FSAI’s website. Closure Orders and Improvement Orders will remain listed on the website for a period of three months from the date of when a premises is adjudged to have corrected its food safety issue, with Prohibition Orders being listed for a period of one month.
