Six Closure Orders Served on Food Businesses in February

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today reported that six Closure Orders were served on food businesses during the month of February for breaches of food safety legislation, pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998 and the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010. The Closure Orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive (HSE).
One Closure Order was served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on:
- Stockwell Artisan Foods (restaurant), 1 Stockwell Street, Drogheda, Louth
Five Closure Orders were served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on:
- Orchid Harbour (restaurant), Main Street, Kilmuckridge, Wexford
- Mad Cow Milkshakes, Burgers & Kebabs (take away), 1 Annamoe Road, Cabra, Dublin 7
- Little Ass Burrito Bar (restaurant) (closed activity: preparation & cooking of raw chicken only), 32A Dawson Street, Dublin 2
- Mamas Revenge (restaurant), 12 Leinster Street South, Dublin 2
- Kelleghan Catering Limited (closed activity: preparation and supply of ready to eat food to other food businesses), Convent Street/Main Street, Tallow, Waterford
Commenting on the Closure Orders served in February, Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI stated that consumers must be confident at all times that the food they are eating is safe to eat.
“There can be no excuse for putting consumers’ health at risk through negligent practices. Food businesses must recognise that they have a legal responsibility to make sure that the food they sell or serve is safe to consume,” states Dr Byrne. “We are re-emphasising to all food businesses the need for ongoing and consistent compliance with food safety and hygiene legislation. This requires putting appropriate food safety management procedures in place and making sure they are strictly adhered to at all times.”
Dr Byrne urged food businesses to take full advantage of the information and support provided by the FSAI and the food safety inspectors to ensure that they have the correct food safety management systems in place. Details of the food businesses served with Enforcement Orders are published on the FSAI’s website. Closure Orders and Improvement Orders will remain listed on the website for a period of three months from the date of when a premises is adjudged to have corrected its food safety issue, with Prohibition Orders being listed for a period of one month.
