KINGSTON, RI, UNITED STATES, June 11, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The World War II Foundation officially announces the first Normandie-World War II International Film Festival to take place June 2-6, 2017 in Normandy, France. The host venue is the Utah Beach Museum in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, France. Official Hotel for the events is the Hotel Villa-Lara in Bayeux, Normandy, France.

The Normandie-World War II International Film Festival showcases the best in World War II military themed films, documentaries, shorts and veteran and student produced story-telling content from around the world.

The festival also recognizes the latest in visual excellence in on-line gaming technology, as a new generation learns of the stories of World War II from this popular form of media.

In 2017, awards in Outstanding Feature Film and Documentary Film categories will be judged by actors from the Band of Brothers television series

This year’s honorary chairperson of the Normandie festival is Hollywood star Kyle Chandler, an Emmy Award winning actor known for his role as head football coach Eric Taylor on NBC’s critically acclaimed show, “Friday Night Lights.”

“I am extremely honored and excited to be honorary chairman of the 2017 Normandie-World War II International Film Festival. The Normandie-World War II International Film Festival seeks to recognize those who are chronicling the personal stories of the dwindling World War II generation. With roughly 800 WWII veterans passing on each day, the time is now to share their stories with the world so that we may truly understand their courage, determination and the sacrifices they endured, in both battle and on the home-front. We are who we are today because of their belief in protecting our freedoms. I hope you will support the efforts and mission of the festival in the coming year and I hope to see you in Normandy, France in June of 2017.”

Kyle has also starred in such films as: Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, King Kong, Super 8 and The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Also attending next year’s film festival are several actors from the globally popular Band of Brothers television series.

The Normadie-World War II International Film Festival will be held each year in Normandy, France at the incredible Utah Beach Museum and our films are shown in the museum’s beautiful glass World War II hangar, which houses a vintage B-26 bomber from that era. The hangar can accommodate seating for 600.

The location of the festival is just steps away from where the American 4th Infantry Division landed on D-Day to help begin the liberation of Europe from Nazi oppression.

The Normandie-World War II International Film Festival serves an important role in furthering the mission to produce content that honors all those who fight for our freedoms each day and have done so through wars and conflicts over the centuries.

As was the case on D-Day, these efforts are undertaken by many people of many nations who believe these stories must be preserved for future generations.

Please join us during the annual remembrance of the D-Day anniversary each June as we preview the best in story-telling from around the world and officially recognize those individuals who continue to honor the men and women who have fought for our freedom in battles both large and small.

The annual military film festival also featured appearances by the actors from the Band of Brothers television series, as well as the directors, producers and others who bring these incredible military projects to fruition each year.

The festival includes:

Film screenings
Q & A sessions with the actors, directors and producers
Forum’s with World War II veterans
An opening night red carpet event
An Awards event
The latest in gaming technology
