Gifted Seven Year Old Teaches Adults the Importance of Music at Scientology Information Center

CLEARWATER, Fla., June 08, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On June 4th Mr. Maurice Mickens, the President of Harlem Nights, an organization supporting arts-related non-profits, hosted an event at the Scientology Information Center in Downtown Clearwater to gain support for his “Art and Music” summer camp. The event also showcased a young lady flutist who demonstrated the importance of music to people of all ages. Guests included Dr. Bob Cundiff, Clearwater City Councilman, and board members of the Martin Luther King Community Coalition as well as supportive friends and neighbors.

The “Art and Music” summer camp is for kids in the Clearwater neighborhood of Greenwood. The seven-week program will teach kids art, to play instruments and how to sing by accomplished artists, musicians and a voice coach at the Martin Luther King (MLK) Center in Greenwood.

Hundreds of dollars were raised from the event to allow families with financial difficulties in Greenwood to have their children participate in the camp. Several sponsors stepped forward during the event permitting several children to attend the summer camp.

Seven year-old Aydana Cervano, who attended the event with her mother and grandfather, surprised guests with her confident performance on the flute after having learned the instrument in just two months of introductory classes.  She will continue receiving lessons at the “Arts and Music” summer camp.

“This little lady is quite a gem. At seven years old she is learning to play the flute and gave a great presentation,” stated Mr. Mickens, “Helping young people learn to play an instrument and expose them to the world of art will have a lasting impact on their lives!”

Mr. Mickens closed by sharing with the audience that if the children attending the camp learn to play two songs with their instruments perfectly, they will be invited to perform at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Festival this fall in front of thousands of people. Aydana did not flinch at the possibility of performing in front of so many, but smiled and stated, “I’m ready.”
