WHAT: Chester, PA, June 1, 2016 - On Wednesday, June 1 and Thursday, June 2, Chester Community Charter School (CCCS) will confer the diplomas of 219 eighth-graders, at the school's annual commencement ceremony, held at the Clarion Hotel, in Essington, PA, and will also recognize in the achievements of 25 students in the eighth-grade class, who have been awarded scholarships and financial assistance, totaling $167,000, to the following secondary schools: St. Andrews School, Monsignor Bonner & Prendergast Catholic High School, St. Elizabeth High School, Sts. Neumann-Goretti High School, and Cardinal O'Hara High School.

Lamar Duncan, member of the school's varsity basketball team and West Campus student, was awarded a $55,500 grant per year, over a four-year period, to St. Andrews School, in Middletown, DE. He will be the first CCCS student, ever, to receive this award.

In addition, graduating eighth-graders will honor Zenas "Nas" Powell, a 14-year-old CCCS East campus student who was mercilessly gunned down, in Chester, recently, by displaying an empty chair, in his memory, at the commencement ceremony. CCCS Superintendent and CEO, Dr. David Clark, will also present Nas' certificate of completion to his mother and his family, designating the young man as a CCCS graduate, nevertheless, despite the unfortunate incident.
