UAW-Chrysler NTC Salutes Autoworkers’ Creativity Through Milestone 10th Employee Art Exhibition
The often overlooked creativity that exists among autoworkers will be on display Thursday, May 19, when the UAW-Chrysler National Training Center unveils the 2016-2017 Artists at Work Exhibition.
Fifty-two employees from union and management whose artwork comprises the exhibition will be honored at an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at the National Training Center, 2211 East Jefferson Ave. in Detroit.
A panel of art professionals selected winners in three judging categories: Painting and Drawing, Mixed Media and Photography. An overall winner also was chosen as Best of Show.
The event represents a milestone for the National Training Center since it is the 10th employee art show jointly-sponsored by union and management. It is the country’s first workplace recognition program of its kind created by a major corporation and a labor union.
Detroit artist Tyree Guyton, founder of Detroit’s Heidelberg Project, will attend the opening to help UAW and FCA US LLC officials celebrate the creative tradition they have established through employee art. Guyton is a former UAW member at Chrysler Corporation. He and FCA artists will be available for interviews.
Parking is available in the lot across the street from the National Training Center at the southwest corner of East Jefferson Avenue and Chene Street.UAW-Chrysler NTC Salutes Autoworkers’ Creativity Through Milestone 10th Employee Art Exhibition
