MEDIA ADVISORY: Checkered Flags Ready as Colorado Middle School Students Head to the Racetrack Saturday

On Saturday, May 14, nearly 200 middle school students from around Colorado will participate in the Junior Solar Sprint and Lithium Ion Battery car competitions from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Dakota Ridge High School, 13399 W. Coal Mine Ave., Littleton.

Sponsored by the Energy Department's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the competitions give students the opportunity to showcase their engineering and design skills by building and racing high-performance model solar- and battery-powered vehicles. Fifty-seven student teams from 15 schools will compete and trophies will be presented to winners in six categories. The event is free and open to the public.

The annual competition is also sponsored by DOE's Office of Science, the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, Jefferson County Schools, and Dakota Ridge High School.
