February 2016 - The Colorado Energy Office (CEO) and GRID Alternatives have launched five community solar projects to provide solar power to low-income households in rural Colorado. The project was designed to demonstrate the feasibility of community solar models in reducing energy costs for low-income families. Delta Montrose Electric Association, Gunnison County Electric, Association, Holy Cross Energy, San Miguel Power Association and Yampa Valley Electric Association will collectively install 579 kilowatts of community solar. GRID Alternatives received a $1.2 million grant from CEO to implement the projects. CEO and GRID Alternatives expect to secure additional utility partnerships to install one megawatt of solar energy for at least 300 low-income households by 2017.
